Here\'s the \"Holy Grail\" of WWI 1911 Slides.
Originally thought to be of Savage manufacture, further research and study have shifted opinion that now speculates that these very rare slides were in fact manufactured by Springfield Armory and NOT Savage as many believe.Please note the \"S\" within the Flaming Bomb, identical to WWI Springfield Armory barrels manufactured for the 1903 rifle, further evidence that they made these slides. No U.S. Ordnance paperwork has surfaced showing that any slides were produced by Savage but only some minor parts such as springs. These slides were subsequently sent to Colt for assembly into 1918 pistols and this combination has been observed in quite a few pistols made during that period.
This particular slide is in exceptional original condition and has never been refinished.
Crisp, clear markings.Perfect, sharp edges and serrations.Correct, original sights and internals.Minor Bluing loss on a few leading edges.Zero pits or dings.Overall an unbelievable find that is by far the least manufactured WWI Slide other than possibly North American Arms.No production numbers have so far been uncovered to show how many were built but we all know how rare these slides are.It would be nearly impossible to find another in this outstanding condition.Mated with an excellent 1918 Colt frame, you\'d have one of the rarest combinations ever produced.
