Roll of Charcloth:Strike a spark onto the charclothusing the special notch on top of the knife spine and the ferrocerium rod then place the charcloth ember on the jute ropebird’s nest to start your fire.
5 Strike Everywhere Fatwood Matchsticks and Striker:Use these if you need to make a fire quickly. The strike everywhere match is glued onto a piece of fatwood which reinforces the strike everywhere match making it very hard to break when you strike it on a rough surface. Once it ignites the attachedfatwood will also catch on fire making it super easy to start your fire. A small striker is provided just in case you can’t find anything to strike the Strike Everywhere Fatwood Matchstick.
Fatwood kindling for fast-fire-starting:Use these besides using regular kindling to quickly build your fire.
5 ft. Paracord:This paracord has 9 strands! It is orange in color for high visibility. Use this paracord as a bow string and it can also be used as cordage.
5 ft. Jute Rope:This jute rope is thick! Cut a short piece and separate the strands then fluff the separated strands thoroughly and use it as a bird’s nest. You can also ignite the fluffed-up strands easily with the ferrocerium rod and it can also be used as cordage.

Small mirror (1.625” x 1.75”):This is a quality mirror with a very good reflective coating. I used a thick tape to cover the back side of the mirror to prevent the reflective coating from getting scratched. The tape also helps to prevent the mirror from breaking or shattering. You can use it as a signal in an emergency or use it as a normal mirror especially if something small gets in your eye or something is stuck in your teeth.

From trying different spindle and fireboard combinations, I found that the combination of a cottonwood spindle and cedar fireboard is one of the easiest ways to create a coal dust ember with a bow drill.
