William K. Vanderbilt, Capitalist, Sportsman. Son of William H. Vanderbilt, Chairman of the board of Lake Shore & Michigan Southern RR. President of NY, Chicago & St Louis Rwy. He was a yachtsman who owned and sailed "the Defender" in the international yacht races with England in 1895. He signs the front of this 1900 $10,000 Bond. Signed by Edward V. W. Rossiter as Secretary. Both signatures slightly cancelled. William Kissam "Willie" Vanderbilt I (December 12, 1849 " July 22, 1920) was an American heir, businessman, philanthropist and horsebreeder. Born into the Vanderbilt family, he managed his family's railroad investments. Vanderbilt inherited $55million (equal to about $1.7 billion today) from his father. He managed his family railroad investments. In 1879, after taking over P. T. Barnum's Great Roman Hippodrome which was on railroad property by Madison Square Park, he renamed the facility Madison Square Garden.
