IMPORTANT Ca. 1812-1840 US IRON CANNON: 13 1/4" SUPERB CONDITION(note: I do not use AI)
The barrel, as shown in a photo, bears a prior collector'swhite ink inventory notation: "1820-40's Plank Cannon 1 3/16 inch bore"
My own description indicates the date could go back to the War of 1812,That is based on consultation with a cannon expert who estimated theearlier date as realistic based on the size of the bore, which he consideredlarger than most plank cannons this size made after 1820.
NOTE: One should understand that plank cannons such as this were used on ships for additional purposes, such as signalling, and line-throwing. They have found use protecting Western exploration on flatboats, and I know of one being found in an 1836 context with 3-pound cannon balls which involved a battle with Indians.
About this cannon:

measures: barrel (not including knob) 12 3’4 inches

with knob (13 3/4 “)

knobs diameter 1 1/2 inches

bore 1 3/16 inches

stand length: one foot 6 inches

width 12 inches

Cannon is deeply patinated. Original mounting architecture consisting of a heavy solid

round iron brace held in place by large hand crafted screw-top bolts.

Plank cannons got that name from being originally not much more than a barrel

strapped to a plank, usually aboard a ship for marine combat. Later, the plank evolved

into a full gun-carriage mount which is beautifully emulated by this magnificent

stand to which the cannon is bolted in an historically accurate fashion.

The cannon ball fired from this cannon would have weighed

approximately 3.3 pounds.
