Click images to enlarge Description This isan ORIGINAL and UNIQUEM1916 holster, asissued to all officers and enlisted men who carried the M1911 .45 Automatic Pistol during World War I. The holster was manufactured for the Army by Graton & Knight ("G&K") in 1917 and inspected by "F.I.C.". The holster is made of dark russet brown leather. The holster is marked "U.S." on the flap and on the back "G&K/1917/F.I.C.".Most interestingly, the holster has been modified by the use of a "drop" extension hanger which has been neatly retrofitted where the normal wire hanger would be, which was removed. The modification appears to be contemporaneous to theholster, since the leather of thedrop hanger is the same dark brown shade as the holster itself. The holster overall is inVERY GOODused condition and is fully functional for carrying the .45 automatic pistol if desired. According to my inventory records, I purchased this holster on November 4, 1989 at the Crossroads of the West Gunshow at the Orange County, CA Fairgrounds and it hasremained in my collection since then. Here's an opportunity for the advanced holster collector to obtain a unique modified holster, which may have been modified by a cavalry officer or other Doughboy. The buyer will havemy usual unconditional guarantee of authenticity and satisfaction and a five-day (not the 14-days that they insert in my listings without my consent) right of inspection and return/refund privilege, excluding postage.
