ORIG\'L, RARE, VG+ Type EE-5 Field Artillery Telephone #2 (WWI-WWII) SALE PRICED! ORIG\'L, RARE, VG+ Type EE-5 Field Artillery Telephone #2 (WWI-WWII) SALE PRICED! Click images to enlarge Description This is an ORIGINAL and VERY RARE Signal Corps Type EE-5 Field Artillery Telephone, which was in use in the US Army from WWI up to and including WWII. I purchased this phone and another offered in a separate listing from the late, great Manion\'s International sale on July 7, 2000. The Type EE-5 was ultimately replaced in WWII by the ubiquitous Type EE-8 Field Telephone (standardized in 1938), which relegated the EE-5 phones to secondary use in training camps within the United States \"Zone of the Interior\". Most EE-5\'s were manufactured by Western Electric, as was this one, designated as its WE 1375-B. The heavy brass handset is painted black and stamped \"D-14842 PAT IN USA AUG 18, 1903\".
The field telephone is in VERY GOOD+ condition despite its near 100-year old age (See illustration above from \"Basic Field Manual: Signal Communication, page 337. Although not tested, given the simple technology of the field telephone, the telephone MAY still be functional, but the seller makes no representation in that regard. Repairs of such phones may be made by Mr. Steve Hilsz, dba VTS Industrial in Salome, AZ. Other information regarding these phones may be seen online at fieldphones.org and the Telephone Collectors International Library online. The BA-9 4.5 volt battery (Eveready No. 703) is no longer manufactured, but modern 4.5 dry cell batteries may be adaptable for use with the phone. Last, but certainly not least, the back of the leather case is stenciled with \"65th AA/2BN. HQ\" (See image above), representing the 65th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, organized on 1 January 1918 (See Wikipedia article for unit history).Please scroll downward to see the last 12 images!
