EXCEPTIONAL 19TH C VICTORIAN HAND EMB SILK SATIN TABLE COVER W URN + FLORALSDATING TO THE VICTORIAN 19TH CENTURY
THIS PIECE WAS ACQUIRED FROM A MASSACHUSETTS MUSEUM.
FASHIONED OF A BLACK SILK SATIN CENTER THAT IS TRIMMED ON THE EDGES IN A METALLIC GOLD LAME BORDER MEASURING 9 1/2 INCHES WIDE.
ONE CORNER IS DENSELY EMBROIDERED IN A GOLD BULLION URN WITH MULTI COLOR CHENILLE FLORALS AND GRAPES CASCADING FROM THE URN AND CONTINUING TO EACH CORNER WITH THE VINES OF THE FLORALS AND GRAPES IN GOLD BULLION STITCHING.
BATTED ON THE INTERIOR AND BACKED IN AN OFF WHITE POLISHED COTTON.
CONDITION: THERE ARE SOME SMALL LINES OF FRAY SEEN TO THE CENTER BLACK SILK SATIN WITH TWO RING MARKS THAT HAVE THE SATIN WORN AWAY WITH INNER THREADS VISIBLE. TARNISH SEEN ALONG THE BORDER WITH ONE SIDE SEAM HAVING FRAY HALF WAY DOWN.
DARKENED TARNISH IS HEAVY ALONG ONE SIDE WITH THE STITCHING IS ONE CORNER HAVING COME FREE ALMOST FULLY AND ANOTHER CORNER HAVING HALF OF THE STITCHING OPEN.THE REAR BACKING HAS THE RING STAINS SHOWING THROUGH.
A WONDERFUL ANTIQUE TEXTILE WELL WORTHY FOR THE EMBROIDERIES ALONE.
